Next Gen Pastor: 3

Over the last 20 years, God has taken me from my home state of Michigan, to Ohio, Guatemala, Texas, and Mexico. I served as a youth pastor in Michigan and Ohio. In Guatemala, we adopted our first son, Otto. Later, my family and I studied Spanish in Guatemala in preparation for our mission work in Mexico. We spent three years in Texas ministering across the border in Mexico. During this time we ran an after-school program teaching English, I also taught at a Bible college in a Mexican prison, and we built and distributed bio-sand water filters. Due to the increased violence along the border, we made the decision to move back to our home state of Michigan and now find ourselves serving at Clarkston Community Church as the New Gen Pastor. My wife, Jenn, and I have been married for 16 years and we have 2 sons: Otto and Owen.

A quick glance at my Instagram page and you will soon learn that I love spending time with my family, fishing, and doing almost anything on the water. A great day for me is spending time with the family on a sandbar talking about the future. Most importantly, I love seeing people’s lives changed by Jesus. At the age of 18, I surrendered to ministry. Since that time I’ve had the honor of doing ministry in various forms. From working with at-risk teens on a horse ranch, speaking at youth conferences, to being a student and family pastor. Most recently, I had the honor of spending almost a decade building teams and strategies to help reach the next generation and families with the Gospel. I am thankful for every opportunity as they have shaped and prepared me for the today. I currently have the honor of serving as the Executive Pastor of Renovation Church in eastern NC.

Our daughter Emma and her husband Jared live nearby with their adorable little girl!

After 17 years in Student Ministry, I started the adventure of leading Family Ministry almost 2 years ago. Starting in Canada and now in California, it’s been an awesome adventure. Whether it has been serving the local church, speaking at camps and conferences, ministry coaching, teaching courses or writing curriculum, I love every piece of it. I love spending time with children, students, leaders and parents, walking together and exploring what it means to truly live out our faith in Christ. The best part of the journey is with my own family, my husband Kyle & our 2 kids, Abbi (17) & Mattias (15).

With all three of our roles being new to us, I often find it hard to know where to focus my energy. We are also trying to launch some kind of Parent Ministry. It’s likely Womens’ Ministry will fall under my supervision soon. And I preach a few times a year, so it’s important to remain connected to our main services and to my role on the Executive Pastoral Team.
